Newborns
Newborns are the most precious age to photograph... Those tiny, curled up fingers, sweet little features, that "milk-drunk" look and adorable wind smiles while sleeping so peacefully!
Those first few days and weeks are often just a big blur for parents and it's not always easy finding time to capture those tiny features of your new addition. Sadly, it is often the biggest regret if you don't, as you will never get that time back.
By allowing me to photograph your new bundle of joy, you will have those memories to look back on and remember those precious moments of getting to know your new baby. We can even arrange the whole shoot (bar a date) prior to your baby arriving. This means less stress for you and peace of mind in knowing that you will have photos of your newborn to treasure forever.
When to Schedule:
Newborns photograph best in their first 10 days of life - the younger, the better! This is because they tend to be more sleepy and easier to pose, giving you the best shots possible.
Your Session:
Newborn sessions can last up to three to four hours, allowing time for cuddles between poses and of course time to feed, change and settle your baby. The last thing we need is to feel rushed or stressed as baby is likely to react to stress. Also, don't worry if baby makes a mess!!! They are newborns and this is to be expected. We will clean it up, change a few blankets and continue the session!
Location:
Newborn sessions can be held at an outdoor location or in my home studio in Palmerston. If this is not possible for any reason, sessions can be held in your home, allowing you to be comfortable and eliminating the need to venture out with your new baby. Please remember that there needs to be sufficient natural light for the session, meaning we could use any room of the house.
What to Wear:
For your newborn, the best photos will be "a la natural"! For mum and dad (if you want to be in a few shots with your baby) a simple black or white tank top or t-shirt paired with some denim jeans is perfect. If dad is comfortable to show is bare chest that is ok too. And if mum would like some feeding shots, we can work those in for you too.
Preparation:
Some things you can do prior to the session to make your baby more comfortable...
- If the session is being held in your home, make sure the location is a nice warm temperature. Remember, your baby will be naked so a comfortable temperature for them will probably mean we will be sweating!
- Loosen baby's nappy prior to the session so there won't be any unsightly marks on their skin.
- Dress baby in something that can be easily removed without waking them (even if this means just wrapping them in a warm blanket.)
- Make sure baby is well rested and fed just prior to the session. This will allow us to get started straight away.
If there is anything you are unsure of or would like more information about a session, please contact me and I will do my best to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.
